Sewers & Drains
Wastewater from bathrooms, kitchens, and washing machines flows through the drains into the main public sewer system.
On Olivers Mill, property owners are responsible for the drains within their building and garden area, including any pipework leaving the property. The public sewer and drain system is currently managed by Thames Water.
Some kitchen drains may be on Village Association land, rather than within the boundary of the property. In this instance, you can contact Thames Water (details below) and quote reference
BB969633).
If you experience a blockage or leak in the main sewer system, you can contact Thames Water at 0800 316 9800 (available 24/7).
It may also be helpful to email us at enquiry@oliversmill.org.uk to let us know about the issue, as it could affect multiple properties.
Surface Water
Surface water includes rainwater from roofs, driveways, patios, garages, and roads.
Rainwater from your house and garage roofs is directed into a soakaway through gutters and downpipes. To prevent blockages, it’s important to regularly clean gutters and downpipes to keep everything flowing smoothly.
Maintenance
Residents and landlords are responsible for maintaining the outside and inside of their property, their back gardens and any land that shows on the property deeds. This includes the doorsteps at the front of the property and boundary fences as detailed on the title deeds
Residents and landlords are also responsible for the drains as detailed in the 'Sewers & Drains' section on this page.
All other Greenlands and Hardlands areas within the Olivers Mill boundaries are maintained by the Residents Society.
Greenlands includes grass, bushes and trees within the boundary of Olivers Mill. It also includes the area immediately to the front of your property. Owners do not own this area and are not permitted to make any changes to this without the permission of the Residents Society.
Hardlands includes the wents (pathways), garage court surface areas, hardstanding areas such as parking bays and house pathways and some fences that do not adjoin houses. Owners do not own the pathways to the rear or front of their property and must not make any changes to this without the permission of the Residents Society and the Village Association (VA).
Please note that any trees, bushes and shrubs that are on VA land and overhang into Olivers Mill are the responsibility of the VA to maintain and any concerns about this can be referred directly to the VA on 01474 872691.
Any trees or bushes that overhang from property owners land onto land maintained by the Residents Society, must be maintained and paid for by the residents or landlords themselves.
Refuse & Rrecycling
Household Rubbish
Please put your rubbish sacks out by 7am on collection day. To keep our neighbourhood tidy, kindly avoid putting them out the day before.
Recyling
Recyling should be placed in clear sacks and put out by 7am on collection day.
Sevenoaks District Council (SDC) will no longer be providing clear sacks for householders, so you will need to purchase your own. These can be found in many supermarkets as well as online retailers.
To ease the work for the refuse collectors, please try to group your rubbish and recyling alongside those of your neighbours.
Household rubbish and recyling is currently collected every Tuesday. This day may change on weeks where there are public holidays.
Garden Waste
Garden waste is collected fortnightly. The collection dates can be viewed on the Sevenoaks District Council (SDC) website www.sevenoaks.gov.uk
Please place your garden waste sacks alongside your regular household rubbish and recyling sacks.
The paper garden waste sacks can be purchased at the Village Association offices in Centre Road, or at the Parish offices at the Milestone complex.
SDC also offers a wheelie bin hire scheme for garden waste. More information is on their website.

Our local refuse tips are at Pepperhill and Swanley. You can take all sorts of items to be recycled or sent to landfill. Information about our local tips and items you can take are listed in the Kent County Council website www.kent.gov.uk
